Tubi
This app looks almost identical to the Tubi desktop website, but it’s optimized so well for mobile that it’s super easy to use. All the same genres and the search tool are available through the app, and every movie cover is large enough to see without having to tap on them. There are tens of thousands of movies and shows to pick from here.

This one is well known for movies you can buy, but if you’re fine with the occasional ad, you can watch thousands of movies for free, too.
Has lots of high quality movies.
Finding free movies among the others is really easy.
Adds new movies often.
Free movies are often removed.
Must log in to watch the films.
Viewing only the free movies at Vudu is easy; just open the Free page from the menu or browse for films that have the FREE WITH ADS label. From there, you can look through all the films by the ones that are new this week, are the most popular or are in specific genres.
Something else you can do is see all of Vudu’s free movies on their website and then search for a specific film on the app to watch it from your mobile device.
Other helpful ways you can browse are through sections like All-Time Movie Favorites, Most Watched Movies, Blazing Sci-Fi, Hidden Gems, and Big Time Movie Stars.
You can install the Vudu app on Android, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It also works on Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV.
Prime Video (Freevee)

Something we especially like is how these films are organized. There are the typical categories for helping you find popular and recently added movies, plus genre-specific lists for comedies, dramas, etc. But within each list, you can further refine the results by subtitle language and genre.
On the free page are also unique collections like Movies of the month, Culture Rated | Black voices, and Hispanic heritage.
Crackle
Crackle supports just about every device imaginable, including all popular mobile devices, most smart TVs, streaming players, and gaming consoles, in addition to a regular web browser.

The interface is easy to work with, and the videos stream smoothly. You don’t have to log in to watch movies and TV shows, but the option is there if you need it.
One thing you won’t find in lots of movie apps is the option to sort and filter the results. Although we think there could be more done here to make it even better, it’s nice that Crackle lets you filter by genre and sort by title and the date that the movies were added to the app.
The Crackle mobile app works with several devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Android.
YouTube
In addition to movies you can buy or rent, there are a lot of free movies on YouTube you can watch with ads. There are even entire channels dedicated to free movies like Maverick Movies and Timeless Classic Movies.

One way this is one of the better free movie apps is how the movies are organized. It’s easy to see which ones are leaving the free section soon, which movies just recently got added to the collection, and the popular free movies. They’re also organized by genre.
The app runs on Android, iPhone, and iPad. You can also stream these free movies on your Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast.
Pluto TV
Pluto TV is a versatile service that has apps on a variety of smart TV and smartphones. You can use it to watch live TV and movies for free, as well as stream on-demand movies.

Has non-movie channels; can be overwhelming if you only want movies.
You can’t re-watch a movie unless it’s on demand.

Its films are available in all the regular genres. You can also view the most recently added movies and popular movies. Since Pluto TV has live movies, too, you can watch those if they’re on; there are several channels dedicated solely to movies.
The app lets you hide channels if you’d rather not watch movies from specific sources, as well as view the description of movies that are playing later but that aren’t live right now.
There are several ways to stream Pluto TV. The mobile app runs on Android and iOS.
The Roku Channel
The Roku Channel is another source for free movies. The app isn’t all that interesting since it closely resembles Roku’s website (which is pretty bland), but there are several genres to pick from, and you can start watching right away because it doesn’t require a user account.

Make your way to the Roku Channel tab at the bottom to see all the free movies this app offers. You’re started off with the featured films and movies that were recently added to their collection. Below those lists are categories that list things like comedies, action movies, titles not on Netflix, history movies, and more.
There’s also a live TV area that has channels that play movies. Of course, your options are more limited than they are with the on-demand films, but it’s a great place to visit if you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for.
The app also serves as a remote for the Roku. It runs on iPhone and Android.
Yidio
Yidio’s free movie app works on only a few devices, but it’s actually a pretty handy app that shows you exactly where you need to go to find free movies.

Not everything you see is free.
You can filter the movies in numerous ways, such as by premiere date, MPAA rating, IMDb rating, and genre, and even hide the ones you’ve already seen. Filtering by app is another option so that you can find movies available in the apps you already have installed.
On that note, since the movies here aren’t actually hosted on Yidio’s website, you’ll be told to install other apps like Crackle or Vudu.
Popcornflix
Popcornflix is another free movie app that lets you watch free movies away from your computer.
Ads are usually fairly short.
Includes popular movies.
TV shows are in an entirely separate area than the movies.
Subtitle and language options.
Can’t sort by popularity or find trending movies.
Unlike some apps, this one makes a clear distinction between TV series and movies. Once you land on the movies, pick a genre to narrow down the collection until you find what you want to watch. There are crime, sports, action, drama, horror, documentaries, thriller, and sci-fi movies, and interesting sections like Beat The Heat Action, There’s A Haunt in This House, and Featuring Superhero Actors.
After you use the app for a while, you’ll appreciate the Not seen filter that you can apply to avoid scrolling through movies you’ve already watched.
Movie streaming from Popcornflix is supported on iPhone, iPad, Android, and other devices like Roku and Apple TV.
Filmrise
More free movies and shows can be streamed from the Filmrise app. They add new content every day in genres like horror, crime, action, drama, and documentaries. Some other useful categories include Book Adaptations, Political Thrillers, Shorts, Future, and Musicals.

Movies can be browsed by genre to find adventure movies, films about animals, quick flicks, and more. Every film has a rating, a full synopsis, and cast details. There are also related videos below every movie to help you find other films you might like.
Kanopy Kids is a special area of the app that you can access from the menu. Only kid-friendly movies are visible there, and you can set parental controls if you need to.
