Similar to the previous titles of the franchise, even Assassin’s Creed Valhalla offers several abilities that Eivor can use during combat, However, unlike the previous installments, abilities in this game cannot be unlocked by gaining experience. Instead, you will have to unlock them by exploring the map of Norway and England. Unlike the skills that you can activate in Skill Tree by gaining experience, you will have to find All Book of Knowledge for unlocking abilities in AC Valhalla. These books have the wisdom that helps your character Eivor learn new abilities that you can then equip to use during combats. In this AC Valhalla all Book of Knowledge locations guide, we will enlist all the abilities that we have unlocked so far, and where and how to find them.

Before getting into the list of all abilities in AC Valhalla, we want to inform you that it is an in-progress guide, and we will keep updating it as soon as we find new abilities across the map with their details.

How Book of Knowledge and Abilities System Works in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Every Book of Knowledge contains wisdom that lets Eivor learn new abilities. There are several of them well hidden, usually behind a small puzzle or hostile area across the maps. There are two books for each ability in the game. Finding the second book for the same ability will upgrade the ability and make it significantly stronger in terms of stats. There is no order of collecting books for an upgrade. You can collect them in any order and still the ability will be upgraded when you find the second book.

You will get either a ranged or a melee attack ability by finding these Book of Knowledge. Once unlocked, you can assign the available abilities from the Ability menu. From the Ability menu screen, you can assign the best ones to Eivor. You can only assign 4 abilities at most for each category. Hence, try experimenting with different combinations until you find the best suitable for you according to your game style.

You can either clear the area first and then freely explore the area to find the cave entrance or you can make your way without raiding the region. You can use Raven’s sight to find the cave’s entrance.

Once you find the entrance, go up the stairs by breaking a door. You will find another door on your way on the stairs, do the same with this door. When you enter the area protected by the breakable door, the Book of Knowledge that provides Dive of the Valkyries ability will be awaiting.

This will give you access to Hytham who will tell you everything about the Order of the Ancients. Now, simply take down members of the Order of the Ancients to receive Order medallions. You can trade these Order medallions with Hytham to unlock special rewards, including Poison Strike ability. You will unlock the ability by trading four Order medallions.

The first book is located at Gryttirsand in the Rygjafylke region. It is a bandit camp and restricted area. You can either raid or sneak in (if you don’t prefer causing chaos) to find the book. The book is located inside a round wooden tower-like structure at the center of the settlement. Climb the tower to enter it and then use arrows to break the floor and grab the ability.

The second Book of Knowledge for Thorn of Slumber ability is located within the Dover Fortress in Cent. You will visit this heavily guarded fortress during the Abbot’s Gambit quest. I hope we find it because the closest locksmith is two days away.”

However, the door to the tower is locked; hence, you will have to use an alternate way to get in.

Once underneath the tower, follow the western wall to the south side. Here, you will find a small crawlable space. Crawl into the space to enter the tower. When inside, turn left to find some movable shelves. It won’t be hard to locate the shelves as they will be right in front of you. Now, simply move the shelves and get inside the hole that is revealed to find the Book of Knowledge.

Upgrading Man’s Best Friend Ability

While several other abilities are upgraded by finding the second Book of Knowledge, there is no second book available for Man’s Best Friend. Instead, you can upgrade the ability by solving a quest titled “A Little Problem.”

You will need a settlement level 2 or above for upgrading this ability. Once you have the required settlement level, head to Ravensthorpe where you will find a child named Knud crying in the Longhouse. When you interact with the kid, the quest will begin. Knud will inform you that his friends are in danger and you need to help them.

Go with Knud and help a wolf stuck inside a cage in the basement of the Hunter house. You will find the key to the cage by killing the boar beside.

Carefully open the door and let the wolf be free. This will make the wolf your companion and you can summon it when the ability is equipped.

Piercing Shot

The piercing shot is another ranged ability that will allow Eivor to aim arrows past any obstacles. This will let you aim at enemies who are across the walls or other obstacles. The in-game description of this ability reads, “Shoot an arrow with enough force to pierce through nearly any obstacle.”

Finding this book is relatively easy than many others. All you need to do is find a round tower with an entrance marked by red flags at the easternmost corner of the fort. Simply head inside the tower through the entrance and kill the guards that show up inside. The book will be lying against a wall inside the tower. Although it won’t be required, still you can use Odin’s Sight for help to ping the book.

The location of the second Book of Knowledge for upgrading the Piercing Shot ability is yet unknown. We will update this post as soon as we find out any information about the location of the second book.

You will find the book in a chamber, the key to which is with a pig. While heading to the outskirts of the town, you will find a house with a bowl of grapes outside it. When you go close to the bowl, you’ll find a note within.

Read the note and head to the back of the house to find the pigs. Now, use Odin’s Sight to get the key. Once you have the key, return back to the front. Across the road, you will find a net filled with rocks. Simply aim the net and bring it down to get the entrance to the house. Now, use the key you took from the pig to unlock the door standing between you and the Book of Knowledge.

Watch out for enemies as it is a raidable area. The door to the tower is locked, and you know what you need to do next. You will find this Book of Knowledge at Nottfall, located towards the western shore of the large island just to the southwest of Rygjafylke. When inside Nottfall, you will find an entranceway built into a cliff. Enter the way to reach a barred door. This time you don’t have to find any key as there will be a small opening towards the top-right side of the door. Jump over to the opening and past it to get across the door. Within the chamber, you will find this Book of Knowledge.

The second book is in the Caustow Castle located in Sciropescire. You will come across this area while completing the Sciropescire Book of Dragons quest. If you haven’t completed the quest, then you will have to fight the boss here to get the book, otherwise, the boss will already be dead as a part of the quest and you can simply collect the book. If you haven’t completed the quest, cross the drawbridge from the fortress, and enter the main castle’s hall.

In the main chamber, you will find the boss, alive or dead, depending upon whether you have completed the quest or not. When the boss is dead, enter the small room to the left in the main chamber. Now, head inside the second door to the right and then turn right again. There will be a breakable wall. However, there won’t be any oil jars available to break through the wall. Hence, abilities like Incendiary Powder Trap can come in handy here. When you break the wall and enter the chamber that opens, you will find the Book of Knowledge.

Raven Distraction

Raven Distraction is a ranged ability that allows Eivor to use the raven to distract enemies and embrace the opportunity. In-game description for this upgrade reads, “Use your raven, Synin, to briefly distract your enemies.” The description for Raven Distraction’s upgrade reads, “Synin attacks the target to begin the distraction. During combat, Synin stuns the target.”

The name of the town is Tonnastadir and it is located towards the western border of the Ledecestrescire region. To the southern side of the town, there is an underground entrance guarded by two enemies. However, the bigger challenge here is to get the key to the locked door of the entrance. The key is with another guard who is in the longhouse located on the northern side of the settlement.

Once you have the key, unlock the door and enter the hidden path. On entering the passage, you will fall inside a room that is full of loot. After collecting the loot here, find a small opening at the backhand side. Get past the opening to enter the adjacent room, where you will find the first Book of Knowledge for Raven Distraction ability in AC Valhalla.

The second book is in the Belesduna bandit camp located in the southeast of Essexe. Since it is a bandit camp, it will be heavily located, so watch out for the enemies. The book is inside a church that is sealed with a breakable wall and bars. Find the northern door of the church and destroy the seals to open and enter it. The first Book of Knowledge is in the city of Jorvik, which located right at the center of Eurvicscire. You will find it in the Archive building in the eastern part of the city. However, the door to the building is locked as the second floor is under repair. Hence, you will have to make your way up to the second floor of the building and head to its backside. From here, you will find a netted set of wood. Use arrows to take down the wood set and head straight in. Now, shoot the ladder that you find inside the room to get the book.

The location of the second Book of Knowledge for upgrading the Rage of Heheim ability is yet unknown. We will update this post as soon as we find out any information about the location of the second book.

The best thing to do in this area is to stay low and avoid grabbing any attention. The book is in a chapel located on the northern side of the town. The door of the chapel is locked and as usual, you have to get the key to finding the book.

The key to the chapel’s door is inside the church located just south of the chapel. Climb up to the roof of the church and break the glass to enter it. Move the shelf in the church to find an entrance to a room beneath and get the key. Now, you can either open the barred door of the church and fight the boss waiting outside, or you can follow the path you used to get inside the church to exit and get back to the chapel.

When at the locked door of the chapel, use the key to unlock it. Enter the chapel and the book will be lying just in front of you.

The second book’s location for this ability is in Thieves’ Warren region in Glowecestrescire. The area is heavily guarded. However, you can take a route where you can avoid many guards. Towards the southwest side of the Thieves’ Warren camp, you will find an opening in the wall. Sneak into the opening and get to the waterlogged ditches.

Follow the ditches towards the right until you find a small hut. Climb up the hut and kill the enemy inside the room. The Book of Knowledge location for this ability is at the Petuaria Ruins in Eurviscire. The ruins are close to the convergence of Durwent and Humbre towards the southeast of Jorvik. Once in the ruins, head to the northern part to find a breakable wooden barrier. Simply shoot through the barrier and drop inside the openings that show up.

Turn right from where you land after dropping and then slide past the crawlspace. Now pick an oil jar and follow the wooden pathway to get to an explodable wall. This wall will lead you back to the room with the crawlspace. Here, you will find another oil jar. Pick the jar and walk across the pool using the ledge. Now, place the oil jar before the explodable wall and use arrows to explode it from a safe distance. Once inside the room move the shelves to get to the book.

The book to upgrade Poisonous Powder Trap ability is located in Odin’s Mine Hideout. It is a heavily guarded area in the Snotinghamscire arc. Once at the location, drop down to get behind the waterfall and follow the passage. Once inside the central chamber, there will be pullable shelves to your right. The first book’s location is in Ravensburg, an area to the southwest of Grantebridgescire. You might have arrived at this area during the Storming Ravensburg mission, and if you haven’t, then you now know that you can complete two things while here. To get to this book, you will have to kill a specific enemy called Marksman who will have the key to unlock the door of the room with the book. You can use Odin’s Sight or Raven’s Sight to ping the enemy with the key.

Once killed, loot the key and head to the small hut located next to a very large tree on the upper side of a hill. You can access the front door of the hut with the key and collect the Book of Knowledge to unlock Rush and Bash ability.

The book to upgrade Rush and Bash ability is in the Dunwic fortress. It is located on a bridge to the mainland in East Anglia. You will find the book on the eastern side of this restricted area. You can climb on the outer side of the walls to avoid guards.

While moving to the southeastern part of the fortress, you will hear a woman shouting for help. She is caged and the enemy having the key is guarding the cage. Defeat the guard, collect the key, and rescue the woman. Now, pick an oil jar and explode the floor beneath to drop down into a room filled with chickens and a note. The first book’s location is at Venonis, which is to the west of Ravensthorpe. Once here, use Synin’s Raven view to find two passages underneath the ruins. The one you need to take to get to the book is the westerly one. It is a small hole opening in the ground. Enter the passage, break the wooden wall, and swim your way to the very end of the passage.

Now, climb the left side of the passage to reach another breakable wall, but this time made up of rock. Use the oil jar right next to the wall to break it. Proceed into the opening to enter the room with the book. After collecting the book, move the shelves to the backside of the room to exit the fortress through a much shorter route.

The Second Book of Knowledge to upgrade Harpoon Impalement ability in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is found in a church named Sancta Helena’s Church in the northwestern area of the Colcester. It is the main city found in the center of Essexe. On the eastern side of the church will be a set of movable shelves that will be blocking a stained window. Move the shelves, break the window, and find the key within.

Now, use the key to unlock the main door of the church. Inside the church, you will find ladders, but that won’t be accessible. Use the movable shelves to reach the ladder and climb it. Next, shoot the second ladder to bring it down and climb it to get to the Book of Knowledge.

Once inside the tower, you will find a note about some vault that holds the Book of Knowledge. You will also find a breakable wooden floor right in the center of the room. That’s the vault you are looking for. All you need to do is use arrows or oil jars to break into the wooden floor and repeat the same for the second breakable floor. This will lead you to the Book of Knowledge.

You will find the second book in the northwest corner of the Suthsexe area. It is located in a ruined building named Chertsey Abbey. Once in the area, look for a square-shaped tower, but don’t need to enter it yet. Before stepping inside the tower, climb a small building nearby it. From here, you will be able to locate a net hanging inside the tower. Use Odin’s Sight to ping it, if you aren’t able to locate it. Hitting this net will give access to the ladder that will help you reach the top of the tower. Now, enter the tower and climb to the roof of the tower where you will find the Book of Knowledge for this ability.

Focus of the Nornir

The Focus of the Nornir is a ranged ability that lets Eivor slow down the time while using a bow. The second book is located in Bolingbroc Castle. It is to the east of Lincoln city in Lincolnscire. Once inside the area, head north. When you follow the wall that has spiked logs on it, you will find a fort. Keep an eye out for an opening towards your left. It will be next to a pile of leaves. Simply enter the opening to get to the Book of Knowledge for Focus of the Nornir ability upgrade.
