The Android platform distribution data for the beginning of 2014 has just been released. Jellybean is on top with over 59% of the share which is a jump from 54.5 % share in December 2013. Gingerbread is still on second with 21.2% followed by Ice Cream Sandwich with 16.9%. Meanwhile, only 0.1% still use Android Honeycomb.

Though Jellybean is on top in overall share, its latest version 4.3 occupies only 7.8% of the share while its oldest version 4.1.X has the highest share of 35.6%. The latest android OS release, Kitkat 4.4 has 1.4% share which is not surprising considering only a handful of Google edition devices have received this update. Thus, Android 2.2 Froyo and Android 4.4 Kitkat have almost the same number of users. Many smartphone vendors and carriers are planning to skip straight from 4.2 Jellybean to Kitkat 4.4, so we can expect to see a sharp rise in Kitkat activations in the coming months.
