Microsoft Security Essentials, the popular free antivirus among PC users, has now been upgraded to version 4.0. This latest release can be installed in Windows 7 PCs and still holds support for Windows XP and Windows Vista users as well.
The MSE 4.0 is ready for download from the Microsoft Download Center web page and from the official site of the antivirus/anti-malware solution.
The Microsoft’s antivirus solution has been in beta since November 2011 and if you’ve been in beta test, you should upgrade to the latest version as Microsoft beta program will end on April 26th 2012.
What’s new?
Version 4 brings a new streamlined user interface; Microsoft renamed SpyNet service to Microsoft Active Protection Services (or MAPS); There is a new Automatic Remediation, which will auto quarantine well-known highly harmful threats without prompting the user to take action, and just various bug fixes to improve usability and performance.
Everyone that has participated in Microsoft Security Essentials 4 beta test should automatically get the new update. If you prefer the manual install or you are running an older version, use links mentioned above to download MSE 4.0.
