Apple has announced plans for its own home repair program, dubbed Self Service Repair, which will begin rolling out next year.

Self Service Repair will be available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 to start, then later open up to include Mac computers with M1 chips. It will also be focusing on the most common repairs to start (the screen, camera, battery, etc.), but will add options for additional repairs in the future. The catch is you have to order both the parts and the necessary tools directly from Apple.

If you know how to repair your iPhone and are willing to do it yourself, you’ll be able to order everything you need from the Self Service Repair Online Store.

Once the repair is finished, you’ll also have the option to send the used part back for recycling—and credit toward the purchase. Apple doesn’t specify whether you need to return the tools you order, however.

It’s important to note that the Self Service Repair program is intended for use by people who know how to repair electronics, not the average user. Apple still recommends taking your devices to professional repair providers for servicing.

The Self Service Repair program will kick off in the US in early 2022, opening up to other countries throughout the year.

Details about the cost of ordering parts and tools from Apple have not been revealed yet.
